Original watercolor or "acuarela" by acclaimed Peruvian / Californian artist Hugo Lecaros (1936-2016).
“Hugo Lecaros paints scenes of his native Peru “from his heart.” Lecaros was orphaned at the age of three and roamed the streets of Cuzco until he was nine when he was taken by an uncle to the jungle to work the rice fields and harvest bananas.
At twelve he won a scholarship to Cuzco’s School of Fine Arts, where he studied only briefly due to a lack of money for art supplies. At 29, he entered the Centro Superior de Bellas Artes in Lima and received a fine arts degree in 1975.
Always in demand, the interest in his work has skyrocketed since his death in 2016.
